2025 Forbes Best-in-State Residential Architects list

We are thrilled to announce that Pohl Rosa Pohl Architects has officially been named to the inaugural 2025 Forbes Best-in-State Residential Architects list!

This recognition is an industry honor, and we are proud to be included among the nation’s most prestigious residential architects. This new list, which is an expansion of Forbes’ acclaimed Top 200 Residential Architects ranking, celebrates firms that excel in custom single-family home design, drilling deep into the unique circumstances—cultural, social, and economic—that shape residential architecture in each state.

A Testament to Vision and Dedication

To be recognized by a publication as respected as Forbes is not just an award; it’s a validation of the core principles that have guided our firm since its founding in 2000: exceptional design, rigorous attention to detail, and a commitment to creating modern, sustainable, and highly-livable homes.

As an architectural practice based in Lexington, Kentucky, we understand the importance of designing structures that are deeply connected to their regional context while simultaneously pushing the boundaries of modern and contemporary design. Our focus on “high-performance/healthy house” systems and unique specializations means that our projects aren’t just visually stunning—they are responsible, enduring, and meticulously crafted for the people who live in them.

This acknowledgment reflects the hard work, passion, and collaborative spirit of every member of the Pohl Rosa Pohl team. Our firm’s leadership, including Clive Pohl, has always championed a process that puts the client and the environment first.

This incredible honor would not be possible without the trust and vision of our clients, the skill and dedication of our partners, and the enduring talent of our team. Every project is a journey, and we are grateful for the opportunity to design and build dream homes that contribute to the architectural landscape of our state and beyond.

From the article: “Programmable coloured lighting transformed an even more unremarkable building – the Helix, a public parking garage – in Lexington, Kentucky. ‘We need to make sure we enhance rather than detract from the visual appeal of our city,’ says Gary Means of the Lexington Parking Authority. ‘We would be shortsighted to present the most utilitarian solution.’ To this end, Means’ team collaborated with Pohl Rosa Pohl Architects on the exterior of the garage. Architect Clive Pohl explains how his studio designed a grid-like series of perforated steel elements for the street-facing façade. By day, the geometric panels merge with and break up the horizontality of the unattractive concrete building. After dark, however, programmable coloured lights illuminate the panels. What’s significant about this project is that, come night, rather than illuminating the utilitarian façade, the backlit elements become the façade.”
